Apple has rolled out the latest in terms of the Mac Mini. And speaking personally, this latest lineup makes some of the older Mac Mini computers look rather big, bulky and outdated. That being said, the new Mac Mini lineup is available as of today and comes priced from $599 and higher depending on the configuration that you choose.
Two key items that stood out for me with the Mac Mini — the fact that there is no longer a power brick and that you can easily upgrade the RAM. And by easily, I mean you can change out the RAM without having to pry your computer open with a putty knife.
The power supply is built right into Mac mini. So there’s no bulky brick, and there are fewer cables to connect. A removable panel on the bottom makes upgrading the memory completely painless. And once you’re inside, you’ll see how clean and organized Mac mini is. With attention paid to the tiniest details. Like the air intake vent. It’s practically invisible. And when the fan is running, you’ll barely hear it. Mac mini is full of big ideas.
That aside, the Mac Mini comes in three default configurations. Two of which are running OS X Lion and one running Lion Server. The breakdown of these models are as follows;
Dual-core 2.3GHz Intel Core i5 processor
2GB RAM
500GB hard drive
Intel HD Graphics 3000
OS X Lion
$599
Dual-core 2.5GHz Intel Core i5 processor
4GB RAM
500GB hard drive
AMD Radeon HD 6630M
OS X Lion
$799
Quad-core 2.0GHz Intel Core i7 processor
4GB RAM
Dual 500GB hard drives
Intel HD Graphics 3000
OS X Lion Server
$999
In terms of the overall size, the Mac Mini measures in at 1.4 (H) x 7.7(W) x 7.7 (D) inches and not that you will be carrying it around with you all that much, weighs in at 2.7 pounds.
Other goodies come in the form of a Thunderbolt port (2560 x 1600), an HDMI port (1920 x 1200), four USB 2.0 ports, DVI output using the included HDMI to DVI adapter, Firewire 800, audio in, audio out, SD card slot, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0.
And lastly, there is also the option to customize your machine. Some of the available upgrades include going up to 8GB of RAM, up to 750GB of storage space, Intel Core i7 processors and even a 256GB SSD drive.
